Understanding Our Certifications

At Organic Cotton Colours, we are committed to transparency, sustainability, and the highest standards in organic cotton production. Our certifications are a testament to this commitment, to ensuring ethical practices throughout our supply chain. These seals allow customers to identify environmentally conscious products and make informed purchases. However, it is unfortunately still confusing to navigate vague logos and greenwashing, as seen recently with BCI – Better Cotton Initiative linked to deforestation. Let’s dive into our certifications to understand why we trust these organizations, and why you can too.

GOTS: Global Organic Textile Standard

GOTS is one of the most recognized certifications for organic textiles, mostly known for protecting against harmful chemicals, in farming and post-processing, and adhering to strict ecological and social criteria. GOTS prohibits unhealthy chemicals including flame retardants, PFAS, and toxic dyes along with allergenic or carcinogenic chemical residues. For OCC, this certification assures our customers that our products are free of pesticides, GMOs, and harmful dyes, while also upholding workers’ rights. Their labor standards, based on the International Labour Organisation (ILO), United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs), and Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), must be met by all processors, manufacturers and traders.

Regenagri: Regenerative Agriculture

Regenagri focuses on regenerative farming practices that restore soil health, enhance biodiversity, and sequester carbon. Regenerative agriculture goes beyond organic farming by ensuring that agricultural systems improve over time. This seal stands out by its flexibility to farm sizes, scalable design, and focus on measurable impacts using real-time monitoring. With this certification, OCC supports farming methods that rebuild ecosystems, increase soil fertility, and capture more carbon than they emit. Regenagri highlights our dedication to leaving the land better than we found it and protecting future generations.

Demeter: Biodynamic Certification

Demeter certification is for biodynamic farming, which takes organic practices to a holistic level. Biodynamic farming considers the farm a living organism, incorporating crop rotation, composting, and working with natural rhythms. At OCC, the Demeter certification emphasizes our focus on harmony with nature, going beyond organic by fostering a self-sustaining ecosystem on the farm. Our OCCBiodynamic® Egypt cotton produced under this certification is cultivated with a holistic, spiritual approach to agriculture.

BCorp Certification: Social and Environmental Impact

We are also proud to be a B Corporation. This certification goes beyond product quality, assessing the overall impact of our business on society, the environment, and workers. Being BCorp reflects our ongoing commitment to using business as a force for good, balancing profit with purpose in every decision we make.
